Who is Rob?
This question has been haunting literally thousands…well probably hundreds…ok, just a few people. It all started in 1971 in Mountain Home Idaho. No, that isn’t where they grow corn (We’ll get to that later), it’s where the grow potatoes. I was born in Idaho at an Air Force base. I lived in Idaho until I was 8. We moved to Oregon. For three years we lived in the LARGE town of Adrian Oregon…population 107 in 1979. After a three year…sentence in Adrian (not really, it was great) we moved back to Idaho, Nampa to be exact. I lived in Nampa for three years then headed back to Oregon. My formidable years were spent in Scappoose Oregon. I graduated from Scappoose (Go TRIBE!) in 1990. I actually survived the entire 80′s without having a mullet. I did groove on the new wave clothing now and again though.
I spent my high school years running track and cross country. I was quite successful in fact. I always think it’s cool to list your PR (Personal Records) on your site. Plus it serves as a reminder of how in shape you USED to be so here you go:
PR’s in the first 30 years of life:
- 800 meters: 2:01
- 1500 meters: 4:12
- Mile: 4:25.8(I remember that one clearly)
- 3000 meters: 8:57
- 2 mile: 9:22
- Steeple: 9:58 (Hardest race I ever ran. I have the flexibility of a steel pipe.)
- 5K: 16:03
- 8K: 26:40 (Senior Year of College)
- 10K: 32:15
- half-marathon: 1:13
Maybe I’ll start keeping a new set of PR’s for the next 40 years of life.
Good times but far from world class. I left high school with big dreams of being a DI athlete. HA. All it took was three weeks of practice at University of Portland in 1990 to realize I was just a small fish in a sea of good runners. I chose to “take my talents to South Olathe.” (I like to think I inspired LJ’s famous quote!)
I left for Olathe Kansas in 1991 where I both struggled and succeeded as an athlete and a student. The largest success came when I met my wonderful wife Robin Hammann. She, too, was an excellent cross country/track runner and even better student. This brings about the next phase of my life.
Robin and I were married in 1995.
